Empathy and caring – the ability to listen, feel the other person, and be there for them in the small and big moments.
Shay knew how to be present when needed, without making a fuss or making a big deal out of it. He understood that true caring is expressed in the small, quiet gestures. For example, during a complex activity that lasted for hours, one of the soldiers on the team seemed exhausted. Without commenting or creating a sense of weakness, Shay simply approached him, brought him a click and a voice, and said with a smile:“You won’t fall in my face, will you?”
They both smiled, and the soldier continued his work with a sense of encouragement, knowing that someone was seeing him and caring about him.

Shay knew how to be present when needed.
