“Mom, just so you know — today I saved lives”
Staff Sergeant Shay Michaeli RIP served as a combat soldier in a classified General Staff unit and fell during a covert operational mission in the Iron Swords War. He told his parents:
“I have no choice but to defend the country. We have no other homeland”.
His commander, Lieutenant N., eulogized him saying
“With your kind and sky-blue eyes — there was no one you didn’t truly see”.
He added: “Your eyes sparkled like the blue sea, full of goodness and radiating calm”.
Shay (first name meaning in Hebrew: gift) was born and raised in Rishon LeZion (Israel) — a blue-eyed boy with a sweet and optimistic smile, exceptional intelligence, a huge heart, and broad knowledge. He was recognized as a gifted child from a young age, excelled at chess, trained in martial arts, studied in an advanced science program, and thrived in everything he pursued.
He proudly represented his city and the State of Israel in table tennis competitions both nationally and internationally, embodying excellence, perseverance, humility, empathy, professionalism, and courage. Shay was driven by a strong sense of mission, solid values, and deep personal responsibility — qualities expressed not only in training and combat service, but also in his participation in operational missions to rescue hostages.
Shay loved life — music, concerts, outings, and friends who were an inseparable part of who he was.
He is survived by his parents, Orli and Yoram, and his sister Shir — grieving, proud, and forever missing him.
